I am having no luck unintstalling McAfee. I must have done something wrong and now every time I start up Windows I get a bunch of screens popping up that say "Commonshell" on the top and I need RESXX\McShield.dll in the box. They seem to be popping up when programs are starting (MSNmessenger, etc). I cannot use my search companion, because the window pops up and the search info is not there, or System Restore, or a bunch of other programs. When I try to open IE, the boxes pop up as the page loads. I tried removing the McAfee under "Add/Remove programs", but the box pops up, and it just freezes. I'vre tried so many things, I can't even remember what most of them were. I also cannot uninstall McAfee Enterprise which I recently installed, as it freezes each time I try.. I also get an error on start-up that says VsTskMgr.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Can anyone help?

I do have XP. I tried this, but could not do the step that says

Highlight Search then click on For Files or Folders.
In the Search for files field type in GdFshk.sys then click the Search Now button.
The computer will then search for the file.
Once the file is found right click on the small icon to the left of the file's name. A pop-up menu will appear.
Left click on Delete to delete the file. Answer Yes to any prompts about deleting the file.
Repeat steps 3-6 for the following files: gdtdi.sys, McAfee Privacy Service Anti-Spyware Scan.job

because my search function is also incapacitated due to this problem.

Looks like you are making progress with the Mcafee thing. I think you still have some type of malware and would suggest you go thru the Spyaware Tutorial after you get finished with the Mcafee uninstall.

Go here, http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/top10faqs.htm to try and fix your search function. Hopefully it will work and you can continue.

That did seem to address my particular error message.

Oops.. I meant did NOT in that last post. Anyway, thanks for your help, but I did mamage to somehow fix it. As it turns out, it was a different program that caused the issue (related to the McAfee). Once I realized that, somehow I fixed that issue and was able to uninstall. Thanks agin for trying!
