if your machine has a cd or dvd burner you can try one of the many backup solutions in the "Backup" section of MG.

Next, insert your XP cd and you should have the option to format the drive before installing the OS. Recommended after a full and proper backup (always check that your backups work and the data is not corrupted) that when you format, format the drive in NTFS.

    any questions just post back.

Good move to format a Dell hard drive anyway. My new Dell laptop gave me all kinds of strife until a friend recommended a format. Your Outlook Express will probably cheer up and work.

I guess that is the real question. How do I format an NTFS OS.It won't recognize fdisk.NG

Sorry KODO,I needed to read your post a bit more thoroughly!!

I tried inserting the XP Pro cd and it wouldn't boot.I had to go to my computer and prod it to go.All it would do is try to install over the Home edition. No promt for format, just which partition I wanted to put it in.Home is taking all my space except for 39meg and that isn't large enough for install. The other option was to put it on the existing C: partition.Where do I go from here.Seems I will have to format first then install.NG

Once you have everything saved set the bios to boot the cd rom first.
Insert the xp pro disk & boot up. Follow the screens from there.
