Hi there, as you have read from the title, i uninstalled firefox3 without saving my bookmarks.:cry Firefox was acting up the whole month so I thought it was a good time reinstall it. It was 3am and I was more than a little bit sleepy and I completely forgot to backup my bookmarks.

I used the add/removed program in control panel and selected to delete fully all files and folders. I'm really hoping there's someway for me to retrieve my bookmarks back. I have a lot of bookmarks that I need in there especially for my college assignments.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Your profile folder should still be intact.
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
When you reinstall you will have to point firefox at your current profile.
Because it will make a new default one.

    :)

Wonders if you emptied your trashbin? Used CCleaner after the un-install? Perhaps a system restore and then export the bookmarks?

    Do a search for bookmarks.html

Thanks for all the advice, but I still haven't been able to retrieve my bookmarks. Reinstalling and loading in my current profile just gave me the default firefox bookmarks. So did doing a search for any .html files.

I did try system restore the minute I realized I didn't save my bookmarks, went back 2 hours before I did the uninstall but somehow, firefox won't start. I would double click it and nothing happens. In the end, I undid the system restore.

Maybe I could do the system restore again and manually try to retrieve the bookmarks? Hopefully system restore would restore my original profile and in it, the bookmarks? I didn't think of it this way previously.

Did you follow the path I gave you.
There should be 2 profiles now.
If there are 2 post back and we can point the new install
    at your original profile.
The new install made a new Default profile which you
    obviously have loaded.
    It's still not to late..

Yup, I did follow your method, in C:\Documents and Settings\<My name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles ,there are 2 profiles, I tried them both and none of them have my bookmarks.

Perhaps if i told my whole story it would be helpful.
    1. My FF3 is installed in my D: partition instead of C:.
    2. Uninstalled FF3 at 3am, system restore a few minutes later. FF3 couldn't start so i undid system restore.
    3. Reinstalled FF3 in D: but still wouldn't start.
    4. Installed FF3 in E: partition, (can't remember if it started or not, it was 7am and I've gone thru 2 days without sleep)
    5. Installed FF3 in C:, starts up, load profile, still no bookmark.

Both D: and E: mozilla folders are missing quite a bit of files. Now only C: mozilla has complete folder.

I made such a mess out of this, being in a state of near panic and coupled with lack of sleep made me mess this up terribly.

Try Restoration. Unzip it and in the folder click on the program. Try bookmark as the "All or part of file" and make sure you have the correct drive selected. It may be C: or D: (try both) because the file you are looking for in in your user/application folder not Program files. Select Restore by copying anything you find with a html or json ending.

We can worry about importing them if anything is found. :)

Well, Restoration didn't really work either. Luckily I managed to recover an older bookmark backup from another hard drive and it contained enough bookmarks for me to happily settle for.

Thank you all again for your help. I've learnt a literally headache inducing lesson, don't change any files/folders when you can't even remember what you did 5 minutes before.

I learned that years ago...and yet find that such a tired state of mind plays just enough of a trick to make you think it is a good idea once again. ;)

If it helps, I have also found that out of sight out of mind is true as well. I'll lay odds that in another few weeks you won't even miss your old bookmarks.

It might not be a bad idea to export them and then if you have a gmail account, email them to yourself so you have backups stored on gmail servers.

I actually back my bookmarks up to a floppy about once a month.
