Anyone know what .NET is used for and if uninstalling it will cause problems in other software programs?

Long story short a "possible" fix was given to me for a CAD program which involves uninstalling .NET 3.0 .NET 2.0 and .NET 1.1 then reinstalling 3.0.

Of course I would like to know if this is going to cause me problems with say Microsoft Office or any other programs.

Anyone know anything about .NET or how I can tell what programs may be affected by uninstalling .NET ?

Should be OK, as long as none of your programs use the earlier versons of .NET
Running these other programs will either work or let you know you need an earlier version. You can, of course, then download the earlier .NET version.
