uninstalling older java

hi there everyone it's been a while i know but got this little prob can't uninstall J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 have tried everything add and remove revo the lot in the end i just installed the updated version and left it there in add and remove ! ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!
Any clues anyone

What kind of problem?

Have you tried using Add or Remove or then Revo in Safe Mode.
Since many things are Not loaded in Safe Mode, this may release something that is blocking the uninstall.

I have never tried anything like this, but maybe you'd have success from a CD boot environment.

Can you manually uninstall the older Java?

• Search "Programs" and "Application Data" and remove old version files manually
  
  
  1. C:\Program Files
  2. C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data
• Restart your PC once all vulnerable Java components have been removed

That's in XP I believe.

The only problem I see with that is that it will not remove anything from the Registry, so security problems may still exist?

Just my opinion - don't have any specific data to support that.
