Uninstalling Opera

I installed Opera and a day later my computer crashed and nothing worked. I ran spybot and Avast and nothing. So I uninstalled Opera and all was fine again. But now I will try to access certain sites and I will look up and see the browser will say Opera and have the Opera icon. For example I will click on Google desktop and it will say that Google is not compatible with Opera...would I like to download a compatible browser?

I go to add & remove programs and don't see Opera in the list. Where could it be hiding?

ETA: I have Dell Dimension E510 Windows XP media center

 

IE and Firefox are compatible with Google Desktop. If you don't want to use Firefox, set IE as your default browser to get rid of the Opera problem.

To set Internet Explorer as your default browser:

1. Open IE and go to "Tools" > "Internet Options" > "Programs."
2. Check the box next to "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser."
3. Click "OK."
4. Close all open browser windows (in both IE and any other browser).
When you next access the Internet, IE will offer the option for you to set it as your default browser.

 

Just out of curiousity, what version of Opera were you trying to use. I've been using v9.23 and 9.24 lately, with the odd happening but nothing serious.
