Hey. I was wondering what the process of safely uninstalling a program is without going through the Add/remove list and if the program doesn't have it's own uninstaller program. I know i need to go into the registry and clean up stuff, but i dont know what to clean up, etc. Thanks

CCleaner and RegCleaner are good registry cleaning programs but in response to your broader question, my advise would be that at this stage it may be wiser to walk before you can run.

    Good Luck

CCleaner would also be my recomendation paddyb270 if you are uncertain what to do..........just a few notes on CCleaner it starts with the default cleaner which cleans out temp files and cookies and you just follow the instruction box's, the second Icon down called "issues" cleans the registry of most of stuff left behind by "uninstall". Click "Yes" on make a back-up file, it will give you a location and a random generated file number, change either, then save, it will return with a prompt to fix files click yes again a warning will pop up click yes again, then it will delete the registry files...........You may have to do this more than once, and you may also have to change the random number generated as it can generate the same number

CCleaner is the safest registry cleaner around, and I have not heard of a person yet that has got themselves in trouble using it.....................That can not be said for some other "Registry" cleaners, for most others you need a fairly good grasp on registry issues before using them

Hope that Helps and Welcome to MAJOR GEEKS paddyb270, post back and let us know how you did....

so, do i have to delete the files of the program before i run the CCleaner, in this case, a computer game?

You should just be able to go to Tools, Uninstall, highlight the program you want to remove, then click Run Uninstaller

Just a caveat to Cochese's good advice paddyb sometimes the uninstaller that comes with some programs actually deletes more than the MS uninstaller, and sometimes it doesn't. Most reputable programs uninstallers are better than MS's.....................Regardless NONE get rid of all the stuff, so make certain you then run CCleaner, which Cochese has provided a link for.
Hope that helps and let us know how it goes, were all here to help

Just to clarify you have uninstalled the program in question, then ran CCleaner's "Issue Icon" and there were now listing for the program you uninstalled?............If that statement is true then your Uninstall worked completely, No worries.............If not post back

no.i haven't uninstalled anything. i installed the program, and when i found out there was something wrong with the program, i wanted to uninstall the program. That's when i found that it didn't show up in the add/remove list and it didnt' have an uninstall program. so it's just a bunch of files and registry edits.

If all else has failed then simply right click on the program name folder and click on delete. Then run CCleaner again to catch any leftover entries anywhere.

This is usually a last resort solution.

Some programs do not appear in the Add/delete lists of various programs, mainly because they have not written any entries into the Registry.

If they also do not come with their own uninstall program, then deleting at Folder level is usually the only option left. Bazza
