   i recently reinstalled my OS (WINXP home OEM) and with it an adaptec CDR bundled for WINme.
   the software reminded me of the incompatability but i installed it anyway.
   the setup failed and now im faced with an adaptec CDR driver that is trying to load at each startup.
   how can i remove this driver?

   Hi
   
   Either see if its listed in add/remove or in Device Manager see if again its listed and uninstall, then use CCleaner to clean your PC up.
   
   Or run the Windows Installer Cleanup tool and again see if this adaptec driver is listed and remove it.
