    I've been using an older version of Universal Viewer on my home PC for years and I freekin' LOVE this program!!! It can open just about any text file, graphic or image file, it can even play video and music files if you have codecs installed!!! and it's all right there in the right click context menu... Well, I installed one of the newer versions on a work PC, and now it says I have to register. I went to their home page and clicked the Register link, and was informed that this great previously free program is now $30!!! :cry Where can I grab an older version? All the links to the older version link me back to their home page where they only have the new ($hareware) release.

    THANKS!

    Sorry, got no earlier versions but VLC does most of that. Anyways, if you couldn't find it...;)

    It sounds familiar; almost as if I might have it installed on one of the computers.
    It's going to take me awhile to search. 7 computers, something like 660 floppies and 28 jump drives in the house! If I have it, it is archived somewhere.

    License:
    * the main application is freeware;
    * the add-on "Navigation Panel" is shareware.

    The "Navigation Panel" add-on is used for the following purposes:
    * showing Explorer-like window;
    * commands "Delete", "Copy to folder", "Move to folder", "Rename", "Send by email";
    * running user-defined tools;
    * running text converter for Office files;
    * registering of MS Office control (note: when NavPanel trial period will expire, program won't display MS Office files anymore).

    Just tried hrlow2's link and it downloads version 4.31 instead of the newest version, so may be what you want.

    I ended up getting 4.2.2 from hrlow's link - the link for 4.3.1 wanted to install the "Softonic Downloader" and I steered clear of it . . .
    The weird thing is that the UV home page says this:
    I have no idea what the "add-on 'Navigation Panel' " is, I have never done anything with UV other than installing it, and occasionally I'll run in to a file that I want to open with UV, I'll right click the file, select "Universal Viewer" from the context menu, and it used to open up just fine, but now I get this "It's past 15 days - register now" window on a few PCs at work. I use v5.3.1 at home, I've used it since April 2010 (that's when it's dated), it even sports an "Open Source" logo (see screen shot), and I have NEVER rec'd any type of nag or "register now" window on my home PC.... weird.
