Unknown PCI Device

I got a warning that my graphics card driver needed installing, so I went into the device manager. Graphics card had a yellow question mark and so did something called Other Device > PCI Device. Can anybody tell me what Other Device and PCI Device refers to?

The above happened after I ran sfc /scannow and had my Windows CD look for any bad files. I had some problems with a FF upgrade this week so was having to uninstall and install a different version.

Now as I'm typing this, my computer screen went black and now I have a font size of about 26 so everything is huge. I'll try finishing this post anyway.

I have a second harddrive hooked up. Could that be what the PCI Device is?

We need to know more about your machine... i.e.. Make/Model what OS you are using, also include any service tags # . Depending upon what OS you have use either Everest or Speccy to give the information that we need...

    for xp..... http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

    for vista/win 7.... http://majorgeeks.com/Speccy_d6358.html

create logs and post them like this....

please note that Speccy will show your Windows activation key # and I.P address these can be edited out befor eposting the log.

I'd reinstall your video driver and see if that fixes the PCI issue as Windows doesn't know what the PCI device is. the scan may have deleted something though it's never happened to me.

    Hi augie and iaian.t

I uninstalled and reinstalled the video driver and that took care of my video driver problem. This other yellow question mark referring to the unknown pci device had some information about it in the Device Manager under Properties in the Details tab and when I looked up the details on google, I came to this information http://driver-id.info/srch.html which indicates it is something related to ATI Radeon which would be my graphics card. Since my computer is working again, I think I will just leave the question mark there for the time being. It doesn't seem to be affecting any of my programs.

Recently during a few bootups, there was a split second extra login screen just before my normal login screen appeared. On one bootup my desktop wasn't there because Explorer.exe didn't start. Then I briefly lost my display settings which made everything huge and had to reset the monitor. Then I had an unexpected scan of an extra partition I don't use. All of these problems came and disappeared again. Weird stuff, like someone teasing.

I might run Everest just to see what it comes up with. Good idea.

It sounds like you may have a corrupt chipset driver, when you upload the everest report it will help in finding the correct chipset driver for your system.

I did a repair install of the operating system which had grown very (very!) sluggish and that seems to have set the comp back into good working order. The pci device is still there with the yellow question marks, but I'm not experiencing any further computer problems. I wondered if it could have any relation to a second harddrive I have attached?

Other than that, if things start going haywire again, I'll try reinstalling the chipset driver.

pci device does not refer to a hard drive. It refers to something in the pci slot of your computer.

note how it mentions chipset (aka motherboard drivers) or video display (aka graphics card or chip).

I had a similar problem with a friends that i was formating. Everything worked OK, graphics, audio etc. But the yellow mark was persistent to appear on the device manager..

After hours and hours of tempting to fix this issue, i found out that the driver that was missing was SCSI and RAID controller, i dont know if this is the case with your computer. The computer i was working on was ASUS M2V mainboard, and the SCSI and RAID controller that i downloaded from the official ASUS website was Marvell 61XX raid controller.

THe procedure of installing is right clicking on the UKNOWN PCI DEVICE, in device manager, and updating it by installing from a specific location, and then browse and indicate where the downloaded driver is. ..

    I hope this helps..
