    HELP!!!

    Current problem:

I have Windows XP Media Edition.

I have 4 profiles defined on my PC.

I am logged in under the admin profile.

I try to "Switch users" and I get a window that says:

    Unlock Computer

Micrsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

Username: (my admin user name shows here)
    Password:

I type in my password for the admin user name, and and the little window
goes away and just returns me to my desktop.

    I CANNOT switch users!

My attempt to solve this problem:

I found googled Microsoft and found this page titled:

"Administrator unable to unlock a "locked" computer"

The resolution it provided was to edit the registry.
    I tried with:

    Start -> Run --> Regedt32.exe

But got this error message window:

    regedt.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\db.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installationg diskette.

    What can i do now??

    I am IMMOBILIZED!!

To edit the registry you type REGEDIT into the run box and hit ok, that brings up the registry for you to follow the directions they gave for the edit. Putting regedt32.exe tried to run the program regedt32 which is diffeent from editing the registry.

I will try Run -> REGEDIT and see if I can follow the directions from there.
Thank you for your quick reply!

The Microsoft web site's instruction I was trying to follow said exactly this:

"To resolve this problem, use another screen saver program (such as Logon.scr) that is installed locally on the system or that is not corrupted.
    1. Start Register Editor (Regedt32.exe)
    2. Locate the Scrnsave.exe value under the following registry key:
    HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop
    3. On the Edit menu, click String, type logon.src, and then click OK.
    4. Locate the ScreenSaverIsSecure value.
    5. On the Edit menu, click String, type 0, and then click OK.
    6. Quit Registry Editor.
    "

Now I am afraid to continue with those instructions because I thought step 2 told me to run "Regedt32.exe" to Start the Register Editor.

Do you advise I follow the above instructions steps 1-6?

    ARRGHH!!

    When I did:

    Run -> REGEDIT

I get this error message window:

    REGEDIT.exe - Bad Image

The application or DLL c:\WINDOWS\system32\db.dll is not a valid Windows Image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

    HELP!!!

What do you recommend I do to fix this?

Its possible that your whole problem lies with corrupted system files and thats why you can't run regedit. Try running scandisk with your XP cd in the drive to replace any bad system files. It will compair whats on the PC with what the original files from the disk are, and replace any that are wrong.

With your XP disk in the rom drive open the RUN window and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes (note the space between the sfc and /), if it seems to get stuck just keep clicking on retry until it goes again.
