Unlocker

I'm trying to regain control over one of my old harddrives where I basically shot myself in the foot assigning permissions to keep my computer safe. I finally gave up using it because I didn't know what I was doing with the permissions. I've gone in now and am backing up all the data on that harddrive so I can reformat, but some of the folders are locked. I installed Unlocker which I've used in the past, but either I don't know how to use it or it's not working. I can't use the OS on that drive, because I rebuilt the computer, so I'm hoping to find a way to get the harddrive backed up so I can wipe it and start over. Any ideas? Does Unlocker work for folders and files? Is there a tutorial on it? Are there files or folders it can't unlock?

One thing I noticed is that since I reformatted and reinstalled my OS on a new harddrive, I don't remember how to get the settings so I can open my System Volume Information folder. It gives me the same THUNK! rejection as the others I've been trying to open. I have the normal settings so that I can open both system and hidden folders, but some of them are still whited out.
