unmountable_boot_volume Help please!!!!

Hi everyone,

I have a PC that is only a few months old but recently the HDD started making funny noises. At first this did nothing to affect the performance other than make a constant whinning noise. However as time went by it started to affect gaming by freezing for a few seconds before continuing.
Now all that happens is when I boot up the PC I get black screen with the message about booting in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. If I select either safe mode or normal windows XP then a blue screen appears with the message unmountable_boot_volume and a series of numbers. No matter what I try it always comes back to this blue n.
Can anyone help fix this for me? A do not have a windows disc by the way.

 

Sounds like your HDD is dead you will have to get a new one (I hope you do backups) and Buy a COPY OF WINDOWS to install

 

Thanks chaimjm. How much am I looking at paying for a new one. mine was a SATA 500GB. Is there anyway for me to recover any of the stuff on my PC as I haven't backed anything up!

 

This could be a few problems first the cable on you HDD may be partly loose and I would check this first. If the windows installation is damaged you are going to have to buy and instillation disk to fix tis
You could check your HDD using the tools on The Ultimate Boot CD from your CD drive
