    i have great difficulty saving certain web pages, for example THIS one:

    http://wmwm.freehostia.com/schedule.htm

    it *appears* to save, but when i later open it locally, i only get the outer frame; none of the calendar where all the info is.

    what's the trick? i looked through the source hoping i could isolate the inner subpage somehow, but no such luck. additionally, i tried using chrome on the off-chance it would be more friendly to a "google" page than IE, but again no joy.

    do others here have problems like this? on the above page, for example?

    Do you mean when you add it to your favorites, it doesn't show properly? I just tried it, no problem.:wave

    no, save, as in "file>>save" or "file>>save as...". for later (offline) reading.

    worked great 10 years ago. getting trickier and trickier with the years, it seems. and now this one page is totally defeating me.

    and since it's google calendars -- rather than just some flaky script the guy put up himself -- i figured the issue might be well-known.

    my last resorts wud be screenshot or printing to virtual printer or something. but it shouldn't have to be that difficult. there's not even any "active" (video/flash/etc) content on the page -- of ALL the pages to have problems saving, THIS one really surprised me!

    What browser are you using? Using IE8, I opened the page, then clicked on the little printer icon. In the window that opened, I clicked on "save as" and checked what came up by default. It saved the calendar as a pdf file in "my documents" that opened perfectly.

    Well, I never met a site/page that gave me as much trouble as that one...

    Using Firefox on one of our computers I tried to save it; every time I did Firefox froze and had to be quit using Task Manager and restarted. Then on the other computer, I did manage to save the page but it froze briefly before presenting the Save box and then again briefly before accepting the OK to save.

    In Internet Explorer 6 and 8, the calendar won't appear no matter which way I try saving it. But when saving in Firefox, if you look in the folder of files that are saved with the page you'll find one called embed.html and that one is the calendar or else is accessing the internet and calling the calendar. I think though, that the calendar HAS been saved in embed.html.

    To be honest, I'm wondering if they've made some sort of mistake in their coding, since Firefox and IE neither seem to cope well with it. There's JavaScript being used, I do know. And the calendar itself is in an iframe.

    Anyone else tried or looked at that page? Comments?

    @chookers: LOL

    actually, pp8 nailed it, and as a PDF to boot! u da man!!!!

    i must say, i never imagined print would even GIVE me the option of "save as..." short of setting up/installing some sort of virtual printer myself.

    i am no closer to understanding how to get the HTML to save, but since PDF was preferable in the first place, i am fully content w pp8's solution. (until the "print" button up and disappears someday....)

    @pp8: mercy beans!!

    Cat-- Glad that worked for you. I went back and tried to use "File"> "Save"> "Save as Complete Webpage", and while it appeared to work, the calendar was missing. I noticed it saved a folder with the embed files (?), and when I clicked on one is said I needed JavaScript to open it. Is there a security setting you could relax to allow scripting? I agree, this page is problematic in that its the first one that actually saved and then wouldn't open properly. Again, glad the other route was successful.

    I cannot say it is the first page that has ever failed to open after "appearing" to save -- anyone ever notice the exclamation glitch?!

    If there is an exclamation point anywhere in the path of the file ("C:\\owner\taxes\2007\!SORT OUT", say), the file won't open. Not that it is munged, mind you -- remove the exclamation point and/or move the file to another branch without one, and -- presto magico -- it opens right up!

    Took me liike a YEAR to figure that out. I mean, one minute it's a perfectly good file, next minute I move it somewhere and it goes dead, third minute I move it somewhere else and it's alive again.

    That was with win98, anyways. Haven't noticed if it's still the same under XP.

    :confused
