if you got the windows 98 disc you can boot from that and format the hard drive that way.

If you go ahead with this you run a significant risk of ending up with an unusable system, reason being that you may find it impossible to find Win 98 drivers for your hardware. However if you first create an image of the XP system and store it on an external drive you would have a way of recovering your XP system if your efforts fail. You need third party software to image XP.

Seagate Disk Wizard, Easeus Todo Backup, or Macrium Reflect are all free and proven tool for this.

You have to have the windows 98 disk and the floppy disk that it comes with to boot it.'

Installing windows 98 is kinda a little more complicated then Xp.

And i agree with earthling finding windows 98 drivers are going to be very hard to find.Even the updates.

I have used all the Operating systems up till now.And i know them pretty well but windows 8.I refuse to go to windows 8.

Is it possible for you to find an update for your sewing program that WILL run on Windows XP or later? Another major problem about going back to Windows 98 is it's vulnerability since the Operating System is no longer supported by Microsoft. The same will happen with Windows XP next April 8th.

Sorry to come in a bit late with this; couldn't you have just run your program in Windows 98 Compatibility Mode (on Windows XP)?

Thanks for the info. I didn't know how to access and use compatibily mode. Alls well that ends well, I acquired win 98 installation disk, run as boot as suggested and did the trick.

    Thanks to those who helped!
