Unusual game crash...

I am running a game exe, but it crashes on the load screen. After extensive searches for the problem, i have discounted the game as the problem; also it worked ok a couple of days ago.

The only thing i've changed is an install of a motherboard update in the form of an Intel info update for the chipset. Could this have caused the problem?... if so can it be reversed?

As far as I can tel, other games/software run ok.

I thought i'd just try different ways of setting up the game. On one instance I unchecked the sound and it runs ok now.

Of course, now I have another problem, how to get the sound working with this game. Incidently, the sounds works with all other software. any ideas?

 

On board sound? I'd see if rolling back the onboard drivers to a previous version, could fix the issue.

If not, onboard sound, I'd update the drivers.
