Unusual Problem

Kind of a long story but here goes. I collect traffic & railroad signals. I use a program called Light O Rama to operate them. I have been using it for years with no problems. It consists of a network of output cards connected by serial communication thru a serial to usb adapter at the computer. A few days ago I was adding a new card to the network. The process is to plug in only the new card, set an address, test the card & then connect it to the network. While I was testing I heard the sound windows makes when you unplug a usb device then got an error message " Automation error the object invoked has disconnected from its clients" tried the card on another computer running windows 7. same result. so the problem is with the card or its wiring. Even without the offending card I can' get windows to reconnect with the network L.O.R. tech support says it's a windows problem & they can't help me. I have tried searching here & the web for info but I don't no what I am looking for so it's hard to come up with relative search terms. I would be very grateful for any help. I am running Windows 10 Pro version 21h1 build 19043.1165

If you click on network and internet in the control panel does it show connected with no internet or does it show disconnected completely?

 

First, I would open the device manager applet and uninstall the drivers for your controllers and serial to USB adapter, then reboot and reinstall them.
