Unusually High Motherboard Temps

For some reason my BIOS, and the utility I use to read temperature in Windows (PC Probe ][) are reporting motherboard temperatures of 55-61°C! I have the ASUS m2n-sli deluxe motherboard. My CPU temperatures are seemingly normal, and idle around at about 38°C. My system is more than well ventilated, and I really shouldn't be getting a motherboard temp that high! When I touch my northbridge chip (its covered by part of the passive cooling system) , it seems hot as well. I've made a post about this on the ASUS forums, but those forums are pretty dead.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my motherboard would be so hot?

My full system specs are as follows.
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+ 2.0Ghz
RAM: Corsair XMS2 2 1024mb modules
Videocard: Geforce FX5500 PCI (lawl)
PSU: Thermaltake 430watt PSU

Well honestly i was hoping for a different reading, if ventilation is as good as you say , i am at a loss for words, will have to ask somebody else to jump in with ideas. ed

 

Do you know how I could find out about the placement of the mobo temp probe?

 

I wonder if the probe is defective some how..

 

I am not sure about you board, but this has been talked about alot in the past on overclocking websites, so im sure it could be a bad temp sensor. ed

 

you could just get a chipset cooler and be happy

definitely shouldnt be that high, mine is 25-28C so could be a faulty sensor
