To make a long story short,I installed Vista Home prem over an empty C:Drive. Strange it installed and added a D: which was my former CD. It made my CD an E: drive

It took 2GB of disk space in the D: and as I only have 149 total Gb I want the 2GB back.

Any know how this can be done?

    Thanks, Bob Johnson

You may be able to remove this 2GB partition and extend the Vista C partition using only the facilities in Vista.

Right click Computer > Manage > Disk Management. Right click the D drive and click Delete Volume. This may or may not work, but if it does right click the C drive and click Extend Volume. Accept the maximum value it offers you.

Let us know how it goes.

A new install of Vista will not create an extra drive if it was a totally clean install. What's in the D drive then?:confused Anyways, follow Earthling's directions.

Hi, I did what you said and lost the 2 gb. It now says Un allocated and the extend volume was greyed outon the C:

As Augie has said, the provenance of that 2GB partition is a bit of a mystery, and we have no idea what it may have contained. Whatever, first try a reboot and try again. In fact try it twice.

Go back into disk management and format the previous D drive to NTFS, then you should be able to extend it. I guess the phantom D drive will forever be a mystery now. :-D

I said it was a long story.I upgraded to Vista from Xp. And then to Win7 Rc.Something strange(i know not what).

I ended up with a black screen saying that there was no Operating system(refolting development).

I worked a minor miracle by installing the first disk of MS Dos 6.22 (1993) and it recognized the Vista disk in the c drive and installed Vista ok except for the extra D drive

OUCH!!! :-D OK, a clean install of W7 RC would have been preferable to an upgrade. I've never done that but the D drive may have been created as a backup, just a guess on my part.

Can you post a screenshot of disk management? Use Snipping Tool.
