Unwanted drop down menus appear

Hi all

I'm currently using an HP Compaq nc4200 laptop, with an XP O/S whats annoying is that when I scroll down much of the time a drop down menu appears, which then prevents me from scrolling until I click anywhere on the desktop, sometimes when I have a document open, say for instance, a word document and I am typing something and during the typing process I make a mistake and click back to that mistake a drop down box again appears, which means, I then have to click to make it go away before I can continue, sometimes the box keeps coming back, its really annoying, not sure if its a software issue or just this piece of junk I'm using, anyone know how to fix this please.

sounds like you have clicklock turned on...go to start...control panel...mouse...make sure clicklock is unchecked...

Thanks for the reply, but thats not the answer, clicklock is turned off, one thing I fogot to mention and its really important, is that I am only using the touch pad, sorry about that.
