    I bought one. :-D

I get so many calls regardless of the Do not Call list I'm on. That just doesn't work anymore and there's too many loopholes. I never answer calls anymore unless I know who the number is. If there's no number, I don't answer either. 99% of the time, it's junk. Most of them don't even bother leaving a message.

I look them up online and you can usually find out who they are. One of the people mentioned a call blocker. I looked them up and as an impulse, I pushed Buy. LOL

This is the one I bought:

I liked the big button. lol

I just got that email saying 'Your item has shipped!'

Estimated delivery date: March 3-March 14

    What??? :cry

It's coming from the UK. I'm hoping that estimate is very conservative. I knew it would take longer than a couple of days, but a month??

Hi Laura, nice item to know about.

I know it's a little too late now that you've ordered it, but I see they're available on Amazon. But they probably get shipped from the UK anyway.

Yeah, I had never heard of them. This one seems to work the best from the reviews that I saw. I opted for their newer version because I like the big screen and button.

Thanks. :) I ordered it off of Amazon, but as you say, it comes from the UK. I saw people ordered off of Ebay as well, but I'm not really a fan so figured I'd stick with Amazon. I don't know that I've ever had anything sent from there so not sure what a realistic timeframe is for shipping. I'm hoping it's not really over a month.

lol...a good tactic. Honestly, I just want to have my phone not even ring anymore when they call. I'm sick of it. It may ring once with this thing and then stop. I'm good with that as well. I would like to know what happens on the other end though.

Last time I ordered something from the UK it got here in about a week. It depends on how they're shipping and if they ship right away. I'll be curious to see if it actually works! Do you have to already have caller ID on your phone to use it? Because my mother drives me absolutely batty with her refusing to answer the phone unless someone talks to the machine, but she also refuses to get caller ID so she can know before they wait through four rings and listen to the outgoing message, then start talking so she knows it's them, then FINALLY picks up the phone.

Mostly, it's for me. I am far too impatient to wait that long. LOL

Yes Sgt. Tibbs, you have to have caller ID to be able to have the blocker work.

I hope that's the case here. When i order something I kinda want it now. LOL

I do have caller ID through Verizon. I'd think you would need it for this.

lol...you could sneak onto her phone and set it up to go to answering machine at 2 rings or something. That way you wouldn't have to wait so long. :-D

Oh I hope this thing works!!! I am somewhat doubtful so think I will wait for some of you to buy it and report back. If it works I for sure am buying one.

I usually never answer the phone unless I know the number or name showing on caller id. On my phone I can only block a few numbers and it will still let the phone ring 2 times before it shuts off. We get 10 or more calls a week from these unknown numbers. I hate it.:(:( Now I get them on my cell phone and home phone both.
I can't read the caller id without my glasses and was expecting a call early this morning so when the phone rang I answered it and was greeted with "Congratulations you have won a free cruise to the Bahamas." I hung up and put my glasses on and the number was 214-316-6941.

I'll let you all know how it works. The other model is the same but a bit less expensive, but again, it didn't have the big screen and button. Also, it does not work with Cox or Comcast (VOIP) apparently, just an fyi.

I could have typed your post almost word for word. I'm just done with the calls. So I do really hope this works as it has seemed to for a lot of people.

Well, shoot. Maybe someday I'll drag her kicking and screaming into the 1990's. She won't even get touch-tone (her phone is still pulse) because "it costs more." :banghead

That's a neat machine, Laura. I hope it works! Now they need little do hickey like that for cell phones, then I'd be set. :-D

However, my current work around is Google Voice. It gives you the option to block calls (my cell doesn't) so if I need a number for a purpose other than close friends and family then I give that number. When someone dials my GV # it rings through on my cell and I can answer it or not (I usually don't answer unless I know). If I wanted to block to a number that called my GV # then I just log on to GV, go through my call log and there is a little -block- button underneath, press it and bam-o! blocked number.

It also keeps record of my texts and voicemails (to that number) which I really like.

Scourge they are those calls Laura, we have a call preference service in the UK but it is not perfect, so we do what you do, if the number is withheld or not in our caller ID list then its no answer.

Woohoo! :celebrateMy blocker has arrived. I set it up yesterday which was as easy as unplugging my phone cord and plugging it into the blocker and then out from there to my phone.

Sadly, no one called me yesterday. :(

I did get a junk call this morning though and successfully (or so it said) blocked that number.

I'll report back in a week to let anyone who is interested know how it's working. :)

I would like to hear how it works for sure! Because if it does, I might even be able to convince my mother to get caller ID so it'll work. :-D

What is the number so we can "help you test it?":p

On a serious side, I used to telemarket for a living with an acknowledgement within 15 seconds that I would appreciate a moment of your time.

The way Tom Mabe messes with dialing for dollars calling, is a riot. :-D

voip and redirect to a mailbox with recording may work also. :major

It is extremely annoying when you come home and there are several messages on the answering machine left for someone that does not even live in your household. :mad

We had a 3 day power outage last week from snow and ice and I believe our home phone was out so there was a busy signal. I'm not sure if that postponed calls this week, but they have started again from the places that call a few times a day. I have managed to block two major repeat offenders, so this will be the true test in the next couple of days.

@katkat...I agree. Although ours have always been from debt collectors for one of my husband's sisters that's always had financial issues. They would hope to get a contact number out of us.

For a while, I was getting those; all from debt collectors.
I think someone was passing around my number as 'safe' to use when applying for a loan.

The calls that irritate me the most are scams about lower credit card interest rates.

If you have a record of the numbers on your caller ID or answering machine,
you can report them to your state's attorney general's office or consumer protection agency.
Just make some inquiries about where to report them.

I got into a huge fight with a debt collector once who kept calling...my daughter. I tried to explain to them that they had the wrong number, and they persisted and then got rude.

So I happened to mention that they were harassing a (at the time) 6 year old girl and that maybe I should talk to a lawyer. Suddenly, the calls ceased. ;)

    Review after the first week:

    5 out of 5 stars

It is extremely easy to set up and it works! I might take a quarter star off just for the fact that you have to actually answer the phone call and hit the button for easy blocking, but really I suppose that isn't that big a deal. If you don't answer the call, it gives you a set of buttons to push to 'block the last phone number that called'.

My phone has been wonderfully silent this week.

    Tell me about it.. rolleyes

If it weren't more expensive I'd get rid of it. Well, that and the fact that my home number is the equivalent of my online order email address. I don't give my cell to anyone.

Could you give us a update? Was wondering if after having this a while if you are still happy with how it works? Seriously thinking of getting one if it is still blocking your annoying calls.
I get about 10 to 15 calls a week showing on Caller ID as AT&T Cus Serv Sur but the number changes. I have never answered when they call. They wait about five minutes and call back with the last four numbers slightly different, have never left a message, and call late at night, Sundays, and early morning.:)
    So frustrating:mad!

    Hey kat

After 2+ months, I'd still highly recommend it! I have about 20 or so blocked numbers by now and my phone is very quiet. No junk calls at all. I think I had one this past week that I blocked. But that was the first in a week or two. It really is very easy to use and set up. The customer service is excellent as well. I think it must be a small company. I had one question when I first got it and got an immediate response to my email.

Sadly I have procrastinated on doing anything:( and a few days ago when the phone rang a phone number and name I know showed up on my caller id so of course I answered the phone to find it was not the person I know but one of those calls.:mad Leaves me wondering how they knew what name and number to show that I would recognize. Scary really!

Was it a land line or a cell phone? Sounds like someone's contact list was accessed and they are spoofing their number like they do emails.

  31. Anon-9aee479f8f

    Anon-9aee479f8f Anonymized

Both mine and theirs were land line numbers. When I notified the person whose name and number they used they called AT&T and were told they could not tell where the call came from.

    Thanks for the link. I
Also I never call the person whose number they used I just happen to know them. Seriously thinking of dropping the land line now. I sometimes get those calls my cell but not near as much as the land line.

The spam has finally stopped on my cell. My blocked numbers list, many of which were repeat offenders on new lines, got up to 31 before the calls tapered off.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned http://www.nomorobo.com/ yet.

Nomorobo is a free service, it's totally legit and I have been using it for over four months. If a known telemarketing/robo # is calling, the phone will ring once then stop.

The catch? Currently, it's only available for VOIP (Internet-based) phone services like Vonage and certain cable companies (check the website to see if it's available for your phone/VOIP provider). They're working on versions for land lines and cell phones but they aren't available yet.

  36. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

I was specifically looking to block calls to my land line, but good to know. :)

The device I got is great. I'd think eventually I'll get rid of the landline. Cable companies bundle them in though.

I'd think the call blocker business would be a big one with the scammers and even legit businesses ignoring the Do Not Call lists.
