Upconverting Dvd Software?

Hello, im not sure if this was to be posted under software or under hardware for pc dvd players. The Question i have is, is there a way to upconvert standard Dvd Movies on my pc and play them on my 42" HDTV through a DVI-Hdmi cable?
If it is in someway possible, would it be dependent on my dvd player , or the software , pc specs, or all of the above?

Here are the current Dvd playing programs i have.
HP DVD Play , Windows Media Player, DIVX Player , and the Media center Program.

My Pc Specs are as follows:
Intel Core 2 duo @ 1.86ghz 1.86ghz
2048 MB Memory
Evga 8800 GTS 320 MB
250 GB HDD @ 7200 RPM
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2
Dvd drive : Super Multi Dvd Burner with lightsribe (no clue on brand)
