Just wondering where I could get some info on updating my asus bios. I downloaded the right bios, but am unsure what to do with the .rom file. I tried putting on a floppy and booting up on it but that did not seem to work. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

You can get information on it from the same place you got the bios. ASUS site. Go back to the downloads section for your motherbaord on their site. The download sections includes a few things. One of whcih is the actual tool used to flash the bios. SO make sure you download both the bios and the tool to actually apply it. Then just follow the instructions they have written out for how to use the tool.

Most Asus boards have a Bios update utility that runs in Windows. That is how I updated mine. The utility is on the MB cd, and is called Asus Update. If you run it it will give you several options on how to do it.

Went back to the Asus web site. Only found drivers and one utility called afudos. Is this what you are talking about. I so, ihave not a clue on how to use it. Is there a diffrent web site out there that can walk me throught this?
Asus makes it very difficult to view faq about my motherboard or on how to update bios. - p4v8x-x.

I wish I had the driver cd from asus.

    Thanks

If it aint broke, dont fix it in the case of firmware or BIOS upgrades. Read the Asus website searching probably under support, downloads, firmware or BIOS. See what is fixed. Its more then likely nothing to help you any.

Most places make it easy, if you understand what your doing? Theres 2 ways to update your BIOS, many newer boards allow it from Windows and a reboot. It appears ASUS update v5.21 is mentioned in the updates (see below) leading me to believe you can do this with Asus Update, the Windows based tool, making your life easier, link provided below for download. Odds are you can ignore this next bit; Older and cheaper boards require you create a boot disk and run it from dos. Its really easy, get the DOS tools, put the BIOS image file where you can EASILY find it from DOS (I suggest making a directory called Temp, so if typing is required, you can type in c:\Temp\imagefile.name) then either browse to the folder where the image file is and tell the update to go or type in path and filename to the image file you downloaded (make note of the name, case sensitive.

1007: Fix the system will hang up when enable "Supervisor Password" and "Password Check" set to "Always"
1006: "OnBorad Serial-ATA Boot ROM" change default to "Enabled"
1005: ** Please use afudos v2.07 (or later) or ASUS update v5.21 (or later) to update 1005 bios. DO NOT use Ezflash to update 1005 BIOS **

Solve system cannot boot into OS if set "always check password" in bios.
Solve HCT ACPI Stress-Device I/O issue.
    1004: Original BIOS.

Not sure if Asus update will work for you, your board is mentioned as DOS based updates. You can try Windows version here: http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=Tools

Dos based utility is called "Afudos BIOS update tool" and can be downloaded here:

FYI, downloading 1008 will add all, the latest bios always includes all fixes.

Cob, why are you updating your Bios?

If you have an issue and the Bios update addresses that, then fine, but if you are updating for the sake of it then it's pointless and risky.

As noted above, there are two basic ways to flash or update the Bios.

    Through Windows or through DOS.

Via Windows is easier, but has added risks as there are other programs running in the background to create a conflict and Windows can also crash at an important stage.

DOS is far safer than Windows but not as straight-forward, although if you read the instructions it's not difficult.

I hate the idea of a pc's fate resting in the hands of a floppy. :(
