    seems to have left "permanent" large files on primary drive.

    You left out details.
    1) Was this windows updates; if not then what?
    2) What version of windows are you running? I see XP, I assume SP3.
    3) The name of at least one large "permanent file and the path to its location.
    4) What have you tried to remove these files?

    1. Yes, windows update activated by shut down
    2. Correct, Xp SP3

    4. Yes, when it happened a few months ago, I saw 10meg files(3) I couldn't delete. My SSD is small in capacity, and became even smaller w/ the last update by 300meg. Now I get "low disk space" constantly.
