    Hello,
I have a Gateway M1629 Laptop and had recently gotten a new battery for it and was given steps to update the bios battery driver as well.

I went to device manager and clicked on the different things and let the pc check for and if need be update any necessary drivers. I also went to the gateway site to check for updates and noticed that there may be a bios update as well.

I then went to the Phoenix Technologies site to check for the update since it has a Phoenix Technologies LTD 9D05 bios (05/23/2008 is the date) and it told me to run a program BIOS AGENT Plus to check for any necessary updates needed. It too stated that there is an update for the bios but in order to get it I need to pay them for the update to be downloaded.

Is there any way to simply get the correct bios update directly from phoenix or for the pc itself to check for and update that as it does for the other drivers? I did download the one that I found at the gateway site http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=2354

Also, I went to the my programs to see about uninstalling the download BiosAgent Plus but it is not listed there - any idea of how to uninstall that would be appreciated as well.

    TIA

    Greetings, lmhjcr...

It's been my experience that device drivers are usually updated to address specific problems and that unless you're machine is exhibiting symptoms of those problems it's best to leave well enough alone - especially when the BIOS is concerned.

A bad/failed/corrupted BIOS flash can render your system practically inoperable - if your computer is running well without a BIOS update it is my opinion that you let it continue to run.

If you "need to pay them for the update to be downloaded" then the risk ain't worth it. ;)

Of course that should read "unless your machine" - my wife would shoot me if I didn't correct my grammar...:-o

That's sort of what I thought might be the case but I just wanted to be sure and since I have NEVER been given anything but really good advice here I thought I would ask - just to be sure.

    Thanks Again!
