Hi all My friend updated her Toshiba Satellite Laptop from 8.1 to Windows 10 several months ago and now webpages Lag along with streaming. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

See if clearing the Cache and Temp folders of her browser helps.

The suggestion made by mdoah is a good one - it affects all and any browsers.
However, unless the problems arose at the time of, or very soon after, the update from Windows 8.1 to 10, then that upgrade is unlikely to be the issue.
You need to describe the exact issues in more detail in order to get any help.
Either way, using a safe reputable program such as CCleaner Slim (in its default settings) to clear cache and temporary files may assist the system.
You would need to provide much more specific details to diagnose any problems that exist on that system, such as whether any streaming plugins (eg Adobe Shockwave FLASH) are fully up to date etc.
Too little information doesn't help giving clearer advice.

I have described it the best I can. When trying to go to something on the web it is very slow to get to the web pages. I tried several web pages and it does the same on each page. It does this sow loading with IE and Firefox as well. Also streaming lags and is choppy I hope this helps you understand the issue.

I have ran Ccleaner deleted temp files. I have refreshed browser. I have ran malware programs nothing came up. I did download all updated drives before updating for my friend.

Is an AV scanning everything that's downloaded including web pages and streaming audio/video?

You've eliminated her internet connection so can you ask her to check the CPU and Memory usage in Task Manager please?

Hi well I have been working on making the computer faster which has helped with the browser. However the video is still lagging. Here is the CPU 8% usage memory says, 1.6/3.5 gigs

Also I wanted to add, I went to Toshiba site to see if there was a way they could scan my Laptop to show me the latest graphic card I need. It scanned it and then it would show me the latest drives and it was a nightmare because when I would download it, it would say it is not for this computer. I was frustrated. Is there a way to figure this out. My friend has a Toshiba Satellite C55-A5120

Thanks for any info that would help this issue.

Try System Information for Windows or Belarc Advisor they will give you the information about all hardware and software on the computer. If you have the information for the actual model of graphics card, it should help find the correct driver(s).

Many people, including myself, had problems going the update route with Windows 10. I got an ISO using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. I did a clean install of Windows 10. I'm also running Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 on the same computer. They're installed on separate partitions. I'm currently posting here in Windows 10.

Yes you are correct I am sorry. My browsing is still not working good. I thought I fixed that. But I think it has to do with the graphic's card C55D-A5120 .

I'm curious about this. It tells me your friend is running 32-bit Windows 10. All of the C55D-A5120 laptops I've seen online have Windows 8.1 64-bit pre-installed because it has an AMD quad-core processor and can have as much as 16 GB of RAM.

It wouldn't be the reason for the graphics slow down though.

  20. Earthling

Me too. The upgrade on my Lenovo laptop had problems but was fine after a clean install.

But, that wouldn't be the reason for the graphics slow down would it?

So are you saying the wrong windows 10 was installed? If so how do I fix this?

  24. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

I know this by the amount of available RAM (3.5 GB). She has 4 GB installed and the entire 4 GB should be available. 32-bit operating systems will only access 3.5 GB. If she were to upgrade her RAM to the full 16 GB her laptop's capable of supporting, the 32-bit OS would still only be able to access 3.5 GB. It's an inherent limitation of 32-bit architecture.

She or you went the update route to Windows 10. Windows 10 should have installed the corresponding architecture (64-bit) which was already installed with Windows 8.1. That's how these laptops were configured:

    AMD quad-core processor @ 1.3 GHz
    500 GB hard drive
4 GB pc3-1333 RAM (expandable to 16 GB)
    Windows 8.1 64-bit

So, I don't know why that's not the case.

Right click on Computer either on the Desktop or in the Start Menu and select Properties. The screen that comes up should say if it's 32-bit or 64-bit. It SHOULD be 64-bit. If it's not, something went wrong somewhere along the line. It's not that the computer won't work with the 32-bit Windows but, it's fully capable of supporting the 64-bit architecture and that's what was installed originally.

No I know how to access all that. That is why I said it is a 8.1 64 bit. So what should I do to fix this issue? Should I go back to windows 8.1? and then update everything then find the wndows 10 64 bit???

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

Sorry, I have to switch computers. So, I'm going to finish with the updates I need on this one (Windows 8.1 32-bit) and switch back to my 64-bit so I can be in Windows 10 and give you more information and a link for the Microsoft Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.

The 'lost' half a gigabyte of memory is because it has been allocated to the onboard graphics chip. It isn't an inherent limitation in 32 bit systems.

    Good morning (here anyway) Earthling.

I run 64-bit versions of Windows on my internal drives and they all say 8 GB (7.99). But, I run 32-bit versions from USB drives and they all say 8 GB installed, 3.5 GB available. I don't think that being "Windows to Go" is the reason.

Your friend's Toshiba has an integrated Graphics Processor chip on the system board. It uses part of the 4 GB of RAM that's installed — hence the 3.5 GB available RAM.

This did not occur to me when I initially saw the 1.6 of 3.5 GB that you reported to Earthling. It's NOT an incorrect architecture problem. She has the right architecture (64-bit) installed. I'm sorry for the confusion I caused.

Ok so then why is the video choppy/ lagging then? Humm I have the right flash player and I have the right configuration. I tried updating bios but once again on updates it says this update is not for my system even though I has it scan my system. Toshiba to me is a nightmare. It scan your computer but does not except any of the updates. very strange.

Everything was OK immediately after the Win 10 update and now things have degraded. Did you install a new graphics driver? You may need to roll back to the previous version. Was any other software installed after the Win 10 update?

  40. Techwoman

    Techwoman Specialist

No that is the problem it has always been an issue since updating it. I have tried to update the driver but it wont update. Should I go into device manager and delete it and have it reinstall it?

  41. Earthling

    Earthling Interplanetary Geek

Graphics problems are the most widely reported following upgrading to Win 10, and as you are unable to update the graphics driver I recommend you think about a clean install as described by mdonah in #16. I had to do it and recommend you do the same and I bet all will be sorted within a few hours.

  42. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

If you do that, Windows may not re-install the specific Toshiba graphics driver. I think what happened is Windows 10 installed a "default" graphics driver. That's what happened on the 32-bit computer I was getting updates for last night. But, I'm satisfied with the graphics resolution and performance of the old girl under Windows 8.1 Core (it came with XP Pro).

Go to the Toshiba Support site and enter the Serial Number or whichever number they require to get to the drivers and downloads section for your friend's specific laptop. Download the graphics driver for her specific laptop but don't install it until you've uninstalled the current graphics driver in Device Manager. If you simply try to install over the current one, it may say the current driver is more recent and won't install it.

  43. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

If you decide to do the Clean install as Earthling suggests, here's the link for the Media Creation Tool. Scroll down to "Download tool now". You must be currently running Windows 10 to download and use it.

Ok can you please help go through the steps. I am not sure how to do a clean install. Sorry I am not that advanced. So should I download the driver from the Toshiba site and put it on a flash drive? Then uninstall the graphic's card in device manager and then do a clean install?

So I guess my question is do I have to revert back to windows 8.1 before I have to upload windows 10? and the question of the graphic card still remains.

    mdonah answered that in #43

  48. mdonah

    mdonah Major Geek Extraordinaire

Try doing what was suggested in Post #42 first. If that doesn't help with the graphics issue, roll back to Windows 8.1.

I don't know when the laptop was upgraded to Win 10 but, the Media Creation Tool creates an ISO that includes the November Update to Windows 10 version 1511, build 10586 and the further update to build 10586.103. Now, whether these included updates will correct the current graphics problem she's having in Windows 10, I don't know.

My two laptops are Dells with dedicated nVidia graphics cards and the drivers supplied by Win 10 for my Latitude E6400 are nVidia Quadro NVS 160 (my graphics card) graphics drivers.
