Updates

Everytime I start my computer (XP Windows) I get a yellow icon :confusedwith an exclamation point in the lower left next to clock. It's telling me I have an update. I click to install it. The icon returns and the computer updates the same update everytime I turn it off. A couple of friends have tried to fix this but can't. I know very little about computers. I have a dell, about a year old. Any help would be appreciated.:confused

Yeah- I just looked at the link provided by Baklogic, and I agree with what's being said... I also run my PC with auto updates completely disabled. This includes the auto update service and BITS. When I do a clean install (I just rebuilt my PC and started clean) I install all the drivers first, all my apps and stuff 2nd, then I install all the critical updates. Then everything related to updates is promptly turned off and/or disabled. But none of this helps the OP with the problem at hand. Try running Dial-A-Fix; use the 'Repair Windows Update' feature and the 'Repair Windows Installer' feature. Dial-a-Fix may look a bit intimidating and scary, but it's OK. There's no way it can possibly hurt your PC as it doesn't add or remove any files; it works with files already on your PC and fixes the status of these files...
