Updating Bios without Floppy or OS

OK, here's the problem.

I'm trying to help someone who needs to flash is Bios on his Dell laptop. It doesn't have a floppy and in it's current state can't be booted into WinXP.

How do we do it any and all help would be appreciated.

The computer is not running correctly, and someone is assuming it's suddenly the bios?

I don't think so.

What you should first try to do, if you haven't already is to clear the cmos.

I don't know how that's done on a notebook, so maybe someone else can help here.

But flashing a bios on a computer that doesn't want to boot into windows is mixing apples and oranges imo.

However, I didn't say the bios was the issue only that he wanted to flash to the newest bios version.

Oh ok, I see. But flashing the bios on a pc that isn't running to begin with is
really asking for trouble, unless the motherboard manufacturer is saying that a particular bios version will fix the exact specific problem the guy's computer is having.

Better to try a windows repair first.
