I am trying to update my old motherboard driver. I have an MSI DAK790GX with 790GX chipset.
I went to http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=html&name=liveupdate_step - this auto update did not update my bios .
To get a motherboard/bios driver update, as My Phenom ][ x4 is unrecognized by any diagnostic applications. The vendor I purchased this computer from told me there would be an update for the MSI mobo that would resolve this problem, yet I have so far been unable to accomplish this . The driver version i am currently using is bios version 1.2 (dating back to 2008) .

    Hi

When using the Live Update, what errors or messages are shown when you run the update app? Try disabling your Software Firewall if one is installed?

    Is this the DAK790GX or a DKA790GX?

If DKA790GX then try the manual update HERE (do follow the instructions listed in the blue attention box on the page)

Hi Halo. Thank you for taking the time to assist me in this matter. According to Piriform Speccy, my BIOS version is AMI (American Megatrends Inc.) Version 1.2 9/5/2008.
Wouldnt this mean I need to get the BIOS update from the AMI site as opposed to the MSI site ? The MSI site has several dead links I discovered when researching this issue.
I want to make sure I get this done correctly. Thank you so much, and MERRY CHIRSTMAS !

Well, let me update this information. The box that the motherboard came in is printed with DKA790gx, but piriform speccy show DAK790gx . I'll assume the box is correct, and will attempt the update as you suggested.
    Thank you .

Hi Yes always get the updates off the mobo maker and not the BIOS maker and the spec applications like Everest and Piriform are not always correct the BOX will be accurate and yes do let us know how you get on.

Ok, got the file downloaded and extracted, then when i try to run the .exe, i get an error popup telling me that "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher .

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit. I will try to find the correct version right now, and will post the results immediately right here in this thread . I hope I can find a version that will work .
    Thanks !

I attempted to use the live update function ( http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=html&name=liveupdate_check ) which comes up with numerous errors and fails to update my bios.
I will continue trying, but if you or anyone else has any suggestions, id be glad to hear them .
    Merry Christmas to all !

    Hi

Try this with the Live update app and right click its exe and choose Run as Administrator and see if that works, just may need like some apps for them to be run as full admin (even though you maybe the admin account, your not full admin, its a security feature)

You could try the MSI USB Flash Tool HERE (will need to register an account at MSI to download, but many have had sucess in Vista x64 with this and should be fine for Windows 7 x64 also)

I already had the correct update downloaded in a zip file. However, iot would not install . I used the USB flash tool you supplied the link for, transferred it to a USB thumb drive, and booted from the thumb drive. After the flash tool extracted the bios update, i had to power down, unplug the computer power supply, open the case and press the CMOS clear/reset button, then booted back up to the new boot screen and updated BIOS. All is good with the world at the moment. Thanks .

Cheers for the detailed reply, now that you can put on your resume as it may help others with same issue, when they search for answers.
