Upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro Available?

Is there an upgrade available from XP Home to XP Pro? I haven't seen it offered anywhere, thought I would ask here.

If there was it isn't worth it, as the changes are insignificant, IMO.

 

I wanted to use it to control access by user to a shared folder over a network. As I understand it, only XP Pro has this capability, not XP Home which has only Simple File Sharing.

 

Bob, my copy of Upgrade XP pro (includes Service Pack 2, as well), definitely states it is possible to upgrade from XP Home. Outside of box states you can upgrade from any Windows from W98, onwards, including ME. I think I remember seeing, when I was updating, that it was also possible to upgrade even from W95. Don't quote me on that.

Part number on XP Upgrade box I have, shows "1004 Part No X10-99524", if that is of any help.

To quote from outside of box. "XP Pro. The edition of Windows XP designed for productivity at home, school, and the office, with improved networking and remote access tools".

XP Home state:-. "The basic edition of Windows XP for the home that is dependable and easy to use".

Looking at the differences, does it justify the price tag for Pro, not to me, that's why I said IMO http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/wink.gif. Aren't there programs out there that can do what you are looking for at a smaller price than buying an upgrade edition of XP Pro?

 

You are right, the cost to upgrade from Xp Home to XP Pro is probably not worth it from a dollar point of view. I was lucky and got an upgrade to XP pro, from W98SE, at a reasonable price. It is obviously a major leap from W98SE to XP Pro when compared with the move up from XP Home to XP Pro. Bazza

To enable the security tab within XP home, you need to go to the following link:

Or just download :

ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/tools/scm/scesp4i.exe

Yes, the requirements are NT4 or higher, but this works great in XP home. I have used this numerous times.
