just upgraded my RAM from 256M to 768M (pc133 sdram)
    (im running win2k pro)

my computer is now way faster than it used to be, but now i keep getting crashes. my games crash all the time, and every now and then i get STOP errors. never the same ones either. the last two have been 'Memory Management' and 'NTFS file system'

also im not sure what to do with my pagefile. should i really set it to 1150M like windows suggests? i have read somewhere that you never need more than 768M of virtual memory.

owell any advice is much appreciated. thanks!

if you have more than 256MB of memory, then pagefile needs to be set the same as the ammount of physical memory. thats how the "rule of thumb" goes anyway, it doesnt nececerily apply to your own personal situation though. To find your own personal good size, make the swap file dynamic, use your pc for a while, then go to the task manager, performance then check the Commit Charge, and you want to use the "Total" value. Though if you do varied work, (for example I open massive files in photoshop occasionally) you might choke it with this, in which case i would recomend dynamic.

I remember Win9x used to have a problem with over 512MB of memory, but not so sure about 2k. Are the two (three?) sticks all the same brand? Have you tried moving them from one slot to another to see if it makes any difference?

I would try using MemTest to check the sticks over.

I would like to disagree..but I love ya anyway Goldy :)

The proper adjustment for the page file on NT is to run your system a little harder than normal for a few days and set the page file to the peak value of the commit charge(k) as it shows in the performance tab of the task manager.
