    Hi

I'm running 6 year old pc with
    Motherboard - ECS M848a 1.0
Processor - AMD Athlon XP 1.25Ghz
    256MB DDR RAM
    and XP pro

It's running very slow, i internet surf and use MS office all the time, would like to edit pictures but it's painfully slow, play some games - nothing to high tech but get a lot of freezing which makes things pretty difficult.

My problem is do i upgrade my existing PC and if so do i need to upgrade the processor/RAM or both

Or do i just accept that it's fairly old in PC terms and i'm better placed buying a new pc

    Any advice gratefully received

To really speed it up, you'd have to replace the cpu, ram, and motherboard. I'd suggest go with a new system, and sell this one.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with the above post.... you are currently in an obsolete platform; the socket A (or socket 462) standard is fairly out-dated and is basically at its 'end-of-life' cycle. To truly upgrade it, you'd need to find a MUCH faster CPU and you'd have to at least quadruple your current RAM. CPU's for your current form factor are no longer being produced as far as I know, so you'd have to go to EBay and get a used one. So, buy some new gear....
