I have an old e-machine w4685, I wanted to know if it is worth upgrading or would i be better off buying a new computer, I am not sure which is best and/or cheapest to do at this point, If anyone has suggestions or input please help me out with some of your advice or input

Forget an upgrade.;) What's your budget and what do you want to use it for?

What do you normally do, or want to do, with the computer? I believe that computer will support up to 2GB of RAM. I'm running Windows 7 on a 2.67GHz Pentium 4 with 2GB. But, if you were thinking of running Win 7 on it, you'd probably also want to upgrade the video (AGP cards cost more than PCI Express) and you might want to upgrade the hard drive, although the 80GB could certainly still be used if it's large enough for your normal usage.

Yes I would go for augiedoggy's suggestion. In my experience the 'Emachine' motherboards that PC World sell are outdated when bought New. They can of course legally sell them as NEW as they have never been used, just that they buy old stock and create a new 'EMachine'

Technology moves quickly, so in most cases upgrading an older machine may not be worth it.

Example, my daughter's Compaq is maxed out for ram and really starting to drag it's rear end.

By the time I upgrade the mobo, processor and add more ram, we would be better off getting a newer machine for $300.

My main reason would be that everything else is still old (Operating system, hard drive, power supply, optical drives, etc) and can :crap out at any time.
