    Hi guys,

large pay cheque coming this month, so what better thing to do than spend it! lol

It's and idea atm, as ideally i'd like to sell the Athlon 64 3500 bundle in the sell forum atm.

General opinions and advice are welcome. Budget so far stands at £600 for cpu, mobo, gfx and ram. Ideally i'd like it do be less! lol

    Components:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.20GHz (Socket AM2)-(£140.99 Including VAT

    MSI K9N Platinum nForce 570 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard-£76.36 Including VAT

    Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)- £223.24 Including VAT

    Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - £135.11 Including VAT

Prices are from overclockers.co.uk Total stands at about £585 delivered.

I can get the CPU £5 cheaper from RL supplies as i live not even 10 minutes away.

So what do you all think? anything outthere thats better for the same price or less? Or is there anywhere i can find these parts cheaper? Advice welcome :)

    Benny.

    G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit- £193.86 Including VAT

Would this be a better option for memory? Its the same clock speed and latency. Not heard much on G.Skill tho, and i know Corsair are very reputable as its whats in my current machine...

Buy as many of your bits from the one source, if possible. Saves each vendor blaming the other vendor. To save £5 is not worth it, IMHO, as it introduces the vendor blaming excuse. Bazza

PS: Not really impressed with duo-core in my Toshiba Tecra A7 laptop.
Software, at present, doesn't really use the duo core to full advantage, IMHO.
    Maybe Vista will be better?

ahh rite cheers for that, i never thought of it that way, ie never had any problem with components in my machine...that must be why, lol

No thoughts on the set up? Good or bad things heard about any parts?

    Cheers

I'm almost a 100% laptop user, so we don't get much choice in alternative components, :p except RAM and USB devices.
So I can't comment on Hardware bits. I'll leave that to desktop owners.:D Bazza

I'd hold off a bit longer before going to AM2, the MOBO's are buggy, many having heat issues too.
Look's like going from 939 to AM2 only yeild's at best a 10% increase in performance, to me that doesnt justify the extra expense & problems of new tech
You could upgrade to x2 939 but I dont see any advantage here either as not many DC programs/apps

I have both 3500 & x2 4200, socket 939's, when running both stock or both OCed with identical speeds, the 3500 seems faster & has higher memory benchmarks using the same exact hardware.
    The 3500 runs cooler too.

By the way G.Skill makes great memory & has excellant Customer Service
    the same goes for OCZ
