upgraded motherboard and cpu, now having vid probs

I recently upgraded my motherboard and cpu. I went from a p4 1.6 ghz, to a p4 2.4 ghz

my system specs:
WindowsXP Professional
Pentium 4 2.4ghz
512mb RAM
260 gig hardrive space
ATI Radeon 9800 pro

i have upgraded my drivers for my video card.. it works fine. However, if i go into the desktop properties, and I try to go to advanced settings, it gives me the blue screen death :-/ can anyone help?

 

So, you had XP running with the old system, then you replaced the old motherboard with a newer motherboard, keeping XP as is. If this is the case, I'd re-install XP (I.E. Repair installation).

When changing components as big as the motherboard, I've always re-installed/repaired windows.

 

the thing is.. i had already done that, when i first got my comp up... and its still giving me this problem

 

I think that the blue screen that you get when attempting to access 'advanced settings' is due to corrupt vga driver in my opinion. Had this happen to me a couple of times a few years back.

When you changed the mobo and cpu, did you do a fresh install. I would guess not.

As a first step, i would boot to safe mode and completely uninstall the vga drivers. I use Nvidia based cards and use drive cleaner for this purpose. I am not knowledgeable about ATI cards but make sure all is removed. Then re-install vga.
