Welcome Fllow, a barebones(base unit) is a cheaper and easier way to go but usually the power supply is also inadequate for gaming, especially when you add in a powerful video card. Let us know your budget, Intel/AMD CPU, nVidia/ATI video card preferences. AMD AND ATI are less expensive than Intel/nVidia for similar performance.

my budget is approximately £700, also i would like to know why i should choose this option of buying a barebone base unit and upgrading it. sorry this is my first time doing this and im kinda lost.

    thanks

No worries mate, I thought you weren't too into this.;) Unless you can specify which power supply you want when ordering the barebones, leave them be as you'll end up buying a new power supply(PSU) anyways, all depends on your video card choice as those are power hungry beasts. I'd rather stay away from barebones with your budget as that's $1100 USD and will be a killer machine!:drool Is a monitor/OS included in the budget or are they separate? Please link us to what you were thinking of getting so's we can have some facts around to start with for starters.

Well, I would go for an i7 920 or higher then, nVidia GTX 570(I don't know ATI) and an ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard with 6GB RAM and a Corsair TX 750W power supply. I hope Rikky comes in here as he recently built an i7 and lives in the UK. Ask away and I'll try to help.
