Upgrading CPU, Question about enabling new CPU's Hyper threading

Whats up, I am upgrading today from a no Hyper-threading Prescott to one that supports it..........is it difficult to enable HT once you put the chip in, or does it enable by itself? i have the intel 915G chipset with the latest BIOS, but since my current CPU does not support HT, the HT option is not available in the BIOS......

 

I'd imagine that it would enable itself... or maybe your motherboard may not support it?

 

Oh ^$#@&, I ordered the prescott 560, and they sent me the 561 by mistake i guess for the same price, this one supports 64-bit instructions =D......

Is HT enabled or have you checked if it there yet? IT might just be running without HT

 

No, it's enabled. it appeared on the BIOS

 

Typically, with HT, your task manager should show (under the performance tab) two seperate cpu histories..

Also, under device manager, you should (may?) have two cpus listed under "processors".

I have been known to be wrong.....Especially with intel cpus
