Upgrading cpus in a hp 7955

will a 2.4 400fsb cpu go into a 1.5 400fsb cpu mobo both 478 sockets?

That depends on your mobo.

This particular Asus P4B-LA (Amazon) mobo has an FSB of 400 MHz.

It is a rather old piece of equipment, but rather reliable.

You MAY NOT exceed the 400 MHz FSB speed.

The CPU may very well work, but the second provision is the L2 cache.

I doubt you can exceed 512MB, but most likely you can only use a 256MB L2 cache CPU.

Definitely have the latest BIOS installed before swapping the chips.

What are the CPU ID numbers on the chips?

Thanx for the help the new one is Intel P4 *2.4GHz/512K/400FSB socket 478 (SL6S9) CPU (110444798508 )is that what your looking for not sure what the other is for the hp. The BIOS is the orginal Award Medallion one that came with, i tried looking for a updated one but did not know where to go. I'll look in to that further.

 

actually found this complete mobo/cpu combo would this be "plug and play"?

D865GLC it comes with a 2.8 intel cpu, ijust would like the 800fsb that this board has!
