    Hey gang,

My laptop is running on Vista. I've been having a couple minor issues with IE and a couple other things. Nothing Malware related, but after trying to figure a few things out, it occured to me that I should just upgrade my OS.

I just picked up Win 8 Pro, mainly because it was on sale. It was an impulse purchase. I got back to my office and read up a bit more about it. I'm not too sure I'm ready to make the big change with the layout. Plus it seems like Windows 7 is an easier upgrade, and doesn't have the major change in the layout.

Guess I'm looking for anyone's opinions between the 2. I'm sure it will come down to my personal preference. But if one is more stable than the other, that would definitely help out in the decision making.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    J

No need to upgrade the Operating system, because a few minor things are happening. I would do a clean reinstall of the OS, if you have not done one for a long time since you have had the computer.

By personal experience, you are better going with Windows 7 if you want to take the next step, due to too many people are reporting issues with Windows 8 at this time in so many ways.

Thanks for your response. That's my feelings from what I've been reading on Windows 8. My next question, if I go with 7, should I Clean reinstall Vista BEFORE upgrading to 7?

Yes, always a clean install. Just make sure that you back up the documents, music, pictures on a USB pocket drive first. You can get 1Tb drives for under $70 these days.

Also you have the licenses for software that you plan on reinstalling.

Can I just upgrade to Windows 7?
Or do I need to do a clean install of Vista first?
    Thanks again.

You could, but always better to do a clean install.

Thanks again. I went to get my Vista disc and found that my laptop didn't come with one. I was suppose to create one when I first bought it. So I guess I will go and buy the full Windows 7 OS and do a clean install with that.?.

Before that, Gateway has an option to create a recovery disc for the drivers, etc. I first copied all of my personal files to an external hard drive. Now I'll make the driver disc.
