upgrading help

a few questions
1) seen claims that 3.2ghz dualcore=6.4ghz because its dual. does the extra cache make that true?

2) (dual core). Intel or AMD? as far as features and stability?

3) if i have an old amd system. could i use the current intel board/cpu im upgrading from to up that system? im thinking yes but want to make sure

used for music production. main program uses near 100% cpu, (can be set to use 100% with dual processor systems) while plugins run, with other programs linked in with main.

currently run a dell dimension 2400 845gv chipset celeron 2.6hz 768ram and my main music program only slows down noticably after rendering projects or when i run multiple plugins.

AMD recommended requirements for the music program:
VIA K8T800, VIA K8T800 PRO, or NVIDIA nForce3 chipset
Socket 754 or 939 motherboard

1) No, it doesn't work like that.

There is an improvement in some programs coded to take advantage, but it's nothing like double.

2) Depends on what you do with the PC. AMD is better for gaming, while Intel is better for video editing.

The difference isn't huge though, and both are pretty good.

3) I don't really understand the question?

 

not good with wording but to put simply, i have an older amd computer and want to upgrade that amd board/cpu with my newer intel. assuming ram,etc.. is compatible it'll work fine right?

 

Yeah, it should be OK, but I can't say for certain without knowing exactly what they are.
