Ive got a "Acer TravelMate240" bought from tesco about 9 months ago and a cheap price, 15"screen, 2.8GHz, 30GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD-ROM, but wat i want to upgrade if the single 256MB DDR 333MHz CL2.5 memory! Ive got XP Home O/S, NAV2004, Microsoft AntiSpyware, Winamp, Msn webcam etc and all the sites and other programs running most the time so as most can imagin its not running to fast! ive got the money ready to spend and a nice 1GB of memory but dont know if the laptop can support this? ive been on the Acer website and the only support i can get is email or phone but as its still under warrnity the less they know the better :p ive tried searching on google but i never seem to type the right words and end up on amozon, ebay or any other site thats selling them but have no info about the product so i thought i'd pick your brains if any of you have done this on the model or what steps id need to take to be able to do this (bios upgrade etc) thank's to any1 that can help or knows any helpful info on this

Ok...according to the Kingston memory website...

For the 243, and 244 of the Travelmate 240 series, check out his link...

For the 242...check out this link...

To make a long story short...all three of these model support up to 2gb of ram, with 2 dimm slots to configure with!! If you like Kingston (which is excellent memory)...you can order from these links according to the references it gives for any particular model of computer!!

Hope that helps...atleast now you know what it will support...whatever brand you buy!!

    Glad I could help!!!

Keep in mind though...the MHZ of the memory!! You want to match what is already there!!! You can see what the current memory is by watching the POST when you boot up the computer!! It will register the memory and report it on the post and it will probably say something along the lines of...

    XXX mb DDR XXX

With the first three X's telling you how many megabytes (you will have to round to the closest, being either 128, 256, 512 or 1024) and the second three X's telling you either, 266, 333, or 400!! You want to match the DDR # accross all pieces of ram!! If not then the motherboard will downclock all pieces of memory to whatever is the slowest module!!

Didn't know if you knew that or not????
