According to the official specifications, my HP Pavilion 6635 desktop has a maximum memory capacity of 256MB. I'm pretty sure, however, I've read about people safely increasing above that but I can't find anything on the Internet anymore. Under the section on updating memory for the 6600 series, the motherboard seems to be capable of going up to 512MB. (see http://tinyurl.com/bnx42)

Anyone have any experience with this issue? Thanks.

PS If this should be a seperate thread I can split it off but I thought that HP used to have community forums for home desktop users but I can only seem to find ones for developers. Info on these would be helpful also.

256MB is the max memory for the Mobo in that system.

Shadow, I don't know where you are getting that... It clearly says on that page that the maximum size is 512Mb. (256Mb x 2 slots single or double sided) You should be safe buying most any stick 256Mb SDRAM.

"This motherboard uses only DIMMs. Sockets are available for 3.3 Volt (power level) unbuffered Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM) of 16, 32, 64, 128 MB, or 256 MB."

Crucial.com thier site clearly states that the system only supports a max of 256MB. And I believe that the web page provided is in error, because two DIMM sockets that support 16-128 MB 168-pin 3.3 Volt SDRAM memory modules do not add up to 512MB of memory. Those are 128MB PC133 SDRAMs

Correction those are 128MB PC66/100 SDRAMS

Yeah, it says 128Mb in one place. It says max 256Mb per slot and 512Mb total max everywhere else on the page. I would tend to think that the typo is the 128Mb per slot.

"The memory subsystem is designed to support up to 512 MB of SDRAM (for improved performance) in the form of two DIMM sockets that support 16-128 MB 168-pin 3.3 Volt SDRAM memory modules."

"This motherboard uses only DIMMs. Sockets are available for 3.3 Volt (power level) unbuffered Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory (SDRAM) of 16, 32, 64, 128 MB, or 256 MB."

"SDRAM in bank 0------SDRAM in bank 1-------Total system memory
    ----256------------------------256------------------------------512"

However, Shadow may be right. I'd call HP just to be safe.
