hi guys, a while ago i had a strange problem where my old graphics card just randomly broke lol its been a while and i got a little bit of cash and want to get gaming again so i have ordered the Geforce 6800XT and another 512 megabytes of RAM, at xmas im getting a 3Ghz processor. My question is, is there any chance that these products will overheat or have lack of power? After i install the gcard and new ram it will be as follows:
    XP
    2.5Ghz Celeron Proc.
    1GB Ram
    6800XT Geforce gcard

So is there any need to upgrade cooling/psu with the described setup or will standard be ok?

    Thanks Very Much
    Jake:)

Overheating? Not likely. Install the heat sink correctly, and you should be golden. (Unless your environment is exceptionally hot) As for power....can you post the specs of your PSU?

right well its a 240v power pack!!
also ive decided that my 6800xt is getting overclocked as its such an improvment, im not going to open all pipeline maybe just 12-14
will this require a third party fan? or anything else, i know how to overclock it using coobits :)

you're gonna need a more powerful PSU for the 6800XT. my XFX 6800XTreme Edition needs a minimum of 350W, recommended 450W.

Wait! Is this a 240 WATT power supply, or a power supply operating at 240 VOLTS? This is the european standard for A/C input. This does not indicate that your PSU isn't powerful enough. No need to spend money if we've made a simple mistake...however, if it is a 240W power supply, then an upgrade should be considered.

Heh! That answers my question! It's a 250W power supply operating at 240V. This is a bit underpowered for your GPU. Sorry for that bit of run around.

The PSU you've linked to definitely provides enough wattage, but do you trust your system to a generic PSU? Remember, if this PSU fails, it can take major components out with it.

Personally, I would look at an Antec PSU. Or if you can, find one that provides some sort of insurance against your system's components.

hmm just been thinking, if i get the card and for the time being use it as it come stock with no overclocking, will my existing PSU be sufficient? i will be getting the new PSU but not just yet

Yes- Antec makes a quality power supply... go with a minmum of 450w. I personally would go even higher, like 550w or even 600w, Just to be sure and to be prepared for any other future upgrades....

    hopperdave2000 :)

Also, look for the amps on the 12v 'rail'; the higher the number, the better...
