    Hi all.

I’ve been upgrading my PC and am fairly happy with things at the moment though my PSU has been left behind in all the excitement. I’ve finally saved some cash to upgrade it and was just after some opinions and advice.

My current PSU is an Antec Truepower 450.

I’m currently running a Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R motherboard, Q6600 CPU (stock cooler), 1Gb 4870 GPU (stock cooler), 4Gb Ram (if that matters), DVD burner, card reader, single HDD plus two case fans.

I’m going to be getting another HDD soon and also reconnect my DVD reader (which I had to disconnect because I ran out of power leads!).

I’m considering buying this: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=21 as recommended here: http://games.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=129047.

Is this still a good PSU and would it be sufficient for my system (and future upgrades)? 620W sounds a little low these days and wondered if anyone could please give some feedback? My budget will be around the $150-$200 range.

    Many thanks.

    David

That PSU looks OK for your current rig, but if you plan on upgrading, you may be looking at upgrading the PSU also. I would recommend a 700w or higher unit.... take a look at these:

All of these have 2 x 6pin PCIe and 2 x 6+2pin PCIe, which is something to look for if you plan on ever going SLI/Crossfire with 2 video cards. The PSU you linked to above has just 2 x 6+2pin PCIe connectors which would only power a single high-end card, or 2 fairly light cards. However, you can get KILLER performance from some of these 'light' cards. Like the NVidia GTS250 (a 'modernized' 9800GTX+)....

If I'm not going to be going down the SLI/Crossfire path then the Corsair 620w HX-620 should suffice?

Yes. However, you did mention "future upgrades" and you also said yourself "620W sounds a little low these days". But the HX620 will be fine for your current rig, and should be OK for most upgrades unless you do go with dual (or triple) video cards, or add an unusually large quantity of hard drives.
    LOL ;) :-D
