Hello. I recently went through the MRG from this forum with the intentions of improving performance on my machine. After sharing the logs and my system specs I was informed that I should be using more than 1 Gb of RAM to operate Vista, so I bought more RAM. Now I am unable to run Vista in anything other than safe mode/safe mode w/networking. When I look at my system specs in safe mode, windows recognizes the RAM upgrade, however I keep getting BSoDs if I try to run Windows normally.

I'm running an Acer Aspire ASE380-UD421A. Previosuly had two 512 Mb RAM chips (DDR2 @ 667 Mhz from factory), and I've installed into those slots two PNY 2Gb RAM chips (DDR2 compatible w/800, 667, and 533 Mhz). My OS is Vista Home Premium 32-bit. What have I done wrong and how can I fix this problem?

Hi shotgun, can you tell me the make/model of your motherboard?

For now, go into the BIOS, (Press Del at startup), go to memory timings (should be in the ADVANCED tab) and set them to the specified timings from your RAM manufacturer, (should be in the manual), and also set the correct voltage. I'm not too sure why it boots in safe mode and not Normal, but do as i have asked and see what happens for now.

    Post back your progress!

I've read elsewhere on the internet that my MOBO has 4 slots for DDR2 RAM, but that each slot is compatible with a maximum of 1 Gb and also that the 32-bit version of Vista only supports up to 3.5 Gb of RAM, therefore I'm led to the conclusion I need two, if not three, 1 Gb chips as opposed to the 2 Gb chips I have now. Does this sound right?

You put a 2GB stick into a slot that can only accept at max, a 1GB stick.
