I am currently running xp pro with a athlon xp 2800+ I will be upgrading to a athlon 64 bit 3700+, with a GA-K8NSC mobo so do I have to purchase a copy of windows 64 bit edition, or can I just reinstall my copy of xp pro?

Nope you don't need 64bit windows to run it, although in the future you will have to consider it.

I personally wouldnt go with Win64 bit as yet, driver issues still and with maybe the backend of this year Win Vista coming out, that will be a better option to jump to a 64bit OS.

so save your money and as McA said use XP pro and save up for Vista :)
