I haven't been through that upgrade, but 2 things anyone that has is gonna want to know.

    1. Did you check minimum requirements / compatability?
    2. Did you make an image before starting the process?

Requirements and compatibility passed, I used the Microsoft ISO file to install it. Every thing seems to go in great but at the end the last updates got stuck. i had windows 10 on this windows 7 pc about 2 years ago, but did not like windows 10, now i am use to it on my laptop and it runs great it. So i wanted to put it back on my desktop

    Is it still stuck?

I would let it be for a while. Some say the update to a new version takes a while. Though I don't know how far in the process anyone gets stalled at. Maybe a recent user will chime in. In the worst case you have the iso so if you did restart and it didn't work you can still start over again.

ok even though its been almost 3 hours, will let it go for awhile longer. I had this happen on windows 7 but i was able to get into c:\windows\software distribution file and delete them then restart updates. but in this case i dont know if i can get into anything unless i restart, but i will wait awhile longer. as you said i still have the ISO File. Thanks

Do you have an older iso or a newer one recently downloaded. A newer one may not require as much of an update.

Dont know if its new or not, i got it yesterday off the Microsoft website download. ok i decided to restart the windows 7 desktop after undoing all of windows 10 upgrade, i got this message>>>
"INSTALLATION FAILED IN THE "SAFE_OS PHASE WITH ERROR DURING MIGRATE _DATA OPERATION. ERRORS "OXC1900101-OX2000D

i CLICKED ON "TROUBLESHOOT THIS PROBLEM" AND THE BELOW CAME UP

What i found was possible driver issues, anti-virus issues, and devices connected. MS says disconnect all except mouse and keyboard. Maybe the other devices could be installed later. I can't recommend turning off a-v. Get a backup of current drivers to use after the upgrade. Else check to see if manufactures have win 10 drivers for your components. Sometimes an older driver will work.

How well did it install last time you went to Win 10?

It installed really very well, it was just at the very tippy end on the last set of updates that it stalled on 21 and i did turn off my antivirus as recommended. when you say devices connected, i think the only thing i have connected is a printer?

1809 has a slew of problems when i installed it.I reverted back to windows 7 because of the major issues.1809 will start being buggy after about a week of use.It may run fine. But i have been running windows since MS-dos.And i can tell when there are problems.People where having issues their files being deleted by windows 10.Microsoft said they fixed that but caused or problems.Make sure you look out for issues and bugs.

Thanks i hesitated downloading 1809 until now, i put it on my laptop last week and so far have no problems with it, this is one reason i am putting it on my desktop. I believe (but not sure they got the bugs out of it by now)
what I just did was, i took the printer off the desktop and stopped my two anitivirus and malwarebytes and then started the download again, it is downloading now. will let you guys know how it works out, will take about 2 hours, i think

Ok, it is stuck on 21% again, i dont know what else to do, there is plenty of gig space too. Is there a place i can download the windows 10 ISO for 1803, if i can install that, then maybe it would update? I am just guessing of course but it might be worth a try. Any one know where to download ISO File for 1803? Thanks

Yes I believe you are correct about the auto updating, here is suppose to be microsofts fix, you stop it from updating before the install i guess? but once the updating screen appears there is no way to bring up this fix that i can see once on the update screen you have to turn off the pc. here is the fix, can it be done on windows 7 before i do the windows 10 install? although mine is stuck at 21% not 99 i guess it does not matter?

If the progress of Windows Upgrade Assistant is stuck at 99% for more than four hours, here's something you can try. Note: Follow these steps before you restart your PC. Otherwise, the Media folder might not be available.

    1. Open File Explorer, type C:$GetCurrent, and then press Enter.

    1. Copy and paste the Media folder to the desktop. If you don't see the folder, select View and make sure the checkbox next to Hidden items is selected.

    1. Restart your PC, open File Explorer, type C:$GetCurrent in the address bar, and then press Enter.

    1. Copy and paste the Media folder from the desktop to C:$GetCurrent.

    1. Open the Media folder, and double-click Setup.

    1. Follow the instructions to start the upgrade. On the Get important updates screen, select Not right now, and then select Next.

    1. Follow the instructions to finish upgrading to Windows 10. After it's done, make sure to install available updates. Select the Start button, and then select Settings > Update & security  > Windows Update > Check for updates.
WAIT, I just had a thought, can i turn off all updates in services before installing windows 10, then RESTART the Windows updates afterwards?

You can try that and see if that works.

Windows 7 and windows 10 don't like to work with one another. When i normally try and up date a system i normally wipe my drive be for updating. And have my system install from a flash drive.

But a year ago i had windows 10 on my windows 7 desktop. the reason i want them both is, I dont want to lose my documents and other things. There has to be a reason this is stuck on 21% updates.

If you have windows 7 i would revert back to windows 7.

Any other idea's on what is causing this windows 7 upgrade to windows 10?. I don't understand i had it on this same pc last year with no problem. any more thoughts as to why it may be getting stuck at the very end of the install at 21%. Thanks

You probably used a different version when you installed it last year.
Try an older version not 1809.

Just because 1809 works on your laptop, that is no guarantee that it will work on your desktop.

Also I NEVER attempt to install all the updates at once. Since I don't run Windows 10, I can't tell you how to proceed. In Windows 7, I started with the oldest updates first. Rebooted, selected some more (again oldest first), rebooted and either used the computer or installed more updates.

Anyone know where i can download the 1803? Btw windows 10 automatically updates, you have no choice to do it later as some websites claim, atleast not on the ISO file i have of 1809
