    Hello all,
I am new to this forum, but looks like a great community!

    My current system:
    P4 3.0e ghz H/T
    2 gig PC3200 Kingston (DDR400?)
    40 and 30 gig 7200 rpm drives
    865GBF Intel mobo
    not bad... right? Well,
Also using a ATI Radeon 9600se (i know)

I have used it for awhile because I haven't been playing too many games since Half-Life 2, but I am ready to get back into the swing of things, so time to upgrade!

So far I have limited my choices between:

    ATI - Radeon X800 XT
    and
nVidia - BFG - GeForce 6800 GT OC Graphics Card

Obviously, with my 865 board I can't use PCI-E, so I am stuck with AGP. Listen guys, any opinions are welcome! They both look like great cards, but I just need a little knudging in the right direction. Having never owned a nVidia, I am normally a ATI shopper, so I don't want to be biased in this decision :)

    Thank you!

    Welcome to majorgeeks...

those cards are okay but if you want to compare speed and techinical stuff
on both cards go here http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=3&var1=88&var2=0 the first page is ATI then a bottom of the pages
click next for nividia so check for CORE speed and MEMORY speed.

Hope this help..... And yes this his a great place...

Also check out the results on the different games and pick the one (ie with the latest drivers in the review being used) that performs the best for the game engines you like to play on. But that said either card will give you a good gaming experience.

Well, thanks for all the help guys! After a few trips to local computer stores, I think I may just take your suggestion on the 6600 nvidia Kernal. I shouldn't spend $400+ on a agp card now if I plan to switch to a pci-e friendly board in the near future. :)
So thanks again everyone for your help, and sorry it took me so long to write back, I was away on business.

Hope to see you guys around!
