    Since the trouble happens while using Microsoft Windows Media [WMP] --- and NOT NERO...
    This problem is very rare. It usually only occurs when a user needs to update to the most current WMP Media Audio and Video codecs. Generally, Microsoft Windows Media codecs are downloaded automatically by the Windows Media Player itself - without any user intervention - and the D/L includes all the necessary Windows Media codec updates.

    The most common 'initial' reason for this "Wacky Upside Down / Reversed" video images problem occurs when the user [or someone else who has access to your computer] tinkers around with the options of the installed firewall - or some other program, like a 'tweak setting' program or something like that - which in turn; prevents the necessary Media Audio and Video codecs downloads.

    If you are currently using Windows Media Player 10 and need to install Windows Media codecs, the best way to do this is to go to this link and reinstall the player. This will provide the very latest WMP Media Audio and Video codecs for WMP 10.

    If you are NOT using the latest version "Windows Media Player 10" - then go to this webpage link which will bring you to the MS webpage that provides Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 6.4 thru Windows Media Audio 9. There you will find the relevant Windows Media Audio and Video codecs downloads for computers running WMP 6.4, Windows Media Player 7.1, Windows Media Player for Microsoft Windows XP, and the Windows Media Player 9 Series.

    Two Very Important Notes:
    As a precaution make sure to always Create a System Restore Point before you download and then install anything onto your computer. This will allow you to return your computer settings to the state your PC was in - prior to installing. It takes like 30 seconds to perform a System Restore Point and can save you many hours of headaches and frustration; should something unforeseen go wrong during the installation process.

    Additionally, that second link [for those who are using the older WMP players] has a lot of choices - so make sure that you read the entire page VERY carefully so that you install the correct Microsoft Windows Media codecs.

    Good Luck

    hi, just downloaded and installed the codecs and there is no change, also i checked g-spot and i still have the same amount of codecs installed, so a reasonable assumption would be that i already had them, i have w2k pro sp4 and i think wmp10 will not work on this, on checking i have 3 wmp's, classic and 2 i am not sure about, one came with my os the other i downloaded from microsoft, ta

    hi all, i have uninstalled wmp9 and the k-lite codec pack with quicktime and media player classic, checked my codecs with g-spot and have 205 installed,
    i tried playing a video file with the basic player in my os but no change, i re-installed wmp9 and still no change, i installed divx and thats ok,
    any pointers would be greatly appreciated with this annoying problem, ta

    Doubt this will work. Haven't tried it myself.

    What happens when playing in WMP, and pressing the "CTRL + ALT + UP ARROW"?

    Also from MS:

    Also, check out: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=269967

    hi, i have a bit more info (if anyone can help), i have set all my video files to open with showtime by default, but i have one or two that open with wmp9 by default (not set by me) these play ok, they are mpeg files, if i set wmp9 to play mpeg files by default i have the problem but not with certain files, if i right click and use the option to play with wmp9 i have a problem (even if its ok by wmp9 default)
    confused - not as much as me,
    any ideas will help, ta

    Upside down or mirrored video is commonly caused by these filters:

    * Bicubic resize filter
    Filename: bicubic_resizer.ax
    Installed as part of many codec packs, this filter is perhaps most responsible for inverted video.

    * G400 filter
    Filename: divxg400.ax
    Also installed as part of many codec packs, this filter can also invert the video.

    * XviD filter
    Filename: xvid.ax
    Again, installed as part of many codec packs, the XviD filter can decode DivX video as inverted.

    1. Choose Run from the Start menu and enter:

    command

    then click OK

    2. In the command window that opens enter:

    cd \\windows\\system32

    and press enter.

    3. For each file you wish to unregister enter:

    regsvr32 /u <filename>

    For example, to unregister the Bicubic Resize filter enter:

    regsvr32 /u bicubic_resizer.ax
