UPSmart2000R ups monitoring power box problem

hello. I wonder if anyone else has got a UPS (external power source) box like mine? Its UPSmart2000R. The manual is useless, very vague and i cant find info regarding the issue that has occurred today on starting my pc.

It says its not connected and the globe that is supposed to spin (its a globe of the world) is not spinning and dulled out. And the icon showing the battery has gone. I have tried to find info browsing Google to help me resolve this but found nothing so i hope someone on here can help me sort out the problem. There is power to the UPS, the lights are on but it says its not connected so am wondering what i can do to fix this or is it a hardware fault or a software fault. Should i uninstall the UPS and reinstall it?

I would really appreciate any help someone can give me. (This unit was given to me from a friend in May 2013.)
